We believe in every young person

Young people respect

At The Door, we believe in the potential of every young person. Yes, when we first meet them, they might be angry, rebellious and in all kinds of trouble… but over the months we see them change.

The Door is a Christian-based youth project, established in 1991 for the benefit of all young people aged 11 to 25. We do mentoring & personal support- so kids can learn to express their anger in more positive ways. We offer a safe place for them to hang out off the streets and fun and challenging activities and trips to channel their energy. And we offer education- practical vocational training such as carpentry, so that troubled young people can go on to lead positive and fulfilled futures. We turn lives around.

I would definately not be at college if it wasn't for The Door

We have been a positive influence in the lives of so many seriously disaffected young people. Just in the past year we have worked with a 15 year old armed robber, 14 year olds addicted to Cocaine and 12 year olds that use sex as a substitute for love.

When asked what difference do we make, Brendan, Project Co-ordinator, always says
“There are young people alive today that might otherwise have been dead if it wasn’t for the work we do.”

This is the greatest outcome we could achieve - a life with a future where there was despair, hope where there was sadness. Our work is challenging but the rewards are great.

Meet Aisha…

“When I started coming to The Door I was very aggressive and not very confident. My anger issues caused me to bully other people because I got bullied. I struggled at school and wasn’t very happy.”

“What helped me to change was the helpful staff at The Door. Whenever there was anything wrong I knew that there was always someone I could talk to and get support. It’s like a big family.”

“I started to learn to sing at The Door about three years ago. To start with I thought that I was rubbish, but they told me to believe in myself. Now I can sing in front of 400 people and it has made me feel I’ve achieved something. The first time that I sang to a big crowd, I was so happy that I cried with the emotion.”

“I’ve also had help from Annie and Jenny, with mentoring. I am now at College doing performing arts and music. I would definitely not have been at college if it wasn’t for The Door.”

“It would be great to sing with more people, but there isn’t really enough space - we practice in a tiny room that we call the broom cupboard. I supposed that’s why we need a bigger building.”

“People should support The Door because it can change people’s lives!”
