Although there are various projects for supporting families with young children out there in the community we have become aware of the lack of support for parents of young people. It’s a tough job parenting teenagers and nobody gets it all right so there is no shame in getting a bit of help from time to time. At The Door we have discovered this first hand and as a result we were offered funding from Provident UK to develop our family support work.
In March 2011 The Light at The Door launched its Family Support Service.

Trained alongside our Youth Mentors, Support Workers work 1:1 with the parents or carers of 11-25 year olds, offering them support, guidance and a chance to let off steam! Through friendship and relationship with the support worker, the parent is able to re-assess life and move forward, whether its through dealing with a family break-up, major crisis or just the day to day job of being a parent.
If you think you could give a couple of hours a week to help a parent or carer, then please contact Victoria on 01453 756745 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Could you do with some support?

If your family contains a young person, and you think you could use someone to talk to now and again, why not download the leaflet below and get it back to us… our service is free and confidential.

If you are currently working with a family, and you believe that they would benefit from having one of our support workers, then you can make a referral using the form below. Please note that when a family is referred we still ask that they complete one of our leaflets for families.

Have you got a listening ear?

If you or your organisation would like to be trained and equipped in mentoring young people, or supporting their families, we would love to hear from you.
