Push The Door Appeal launches

Today as part of the Undiscovered Youth Talent Contest, The Door Youth Project launched a new appeal to raise £500,000 for a new building.

Today we launched the Push The Door Appeal to provide much improved facilities for youngsters in the town.

We need to raise £300,000 to buy a new building, and a further £200,000 to renovate it to become a new youth centre for the town.

“It will take The Door to a bigger and more exciting level,” said Brendan Conboy, project co-ordinator at The Door. “We want to be able to do more for the young people of this town. It’s not simply about a building – it’s about people who are going to use the building.”

All the youngsters who use the current facilities are behind the appeal, and planning fundraising campaigns themselves. We are appealing for grants already and are hoping that Stroud District Council will also get involved.  Stroud MP David Drew has offered his support to the scheme. The town council has pledged £1,500 to help with the costs of a structural survey and planning application.

“We have really grown out of our existing premises in Gloucester Street and need a much bigger space,” said Brendan.
